Pvt. Anna Helena Boye

(1919 - 2001)

Pvt. Anna Helene Boye enlisted in the Women’s Army Corps (WAC) in 1944. She was one of twenty-nine Danish born WACs during the Second World War.

Anna Helene Boye was born on 4 September 1919 in Marstal, Denmark, to labourer Hans Albert Boye and Karen Boye (née Hansen).[1]

The family emigrated to the United States, arriving in New York from Copenhagen onboard the SS United States on 29 February 1929.[2] They settled in Newton, Iowa.

Boye enlisted as a private (A-526947) in the Women’s Army Corps (WAC) on 21 July 1944 in Cincinnati, Ohio.[3] There is no information on the nature of her service. It is not known, if she served as an Army Air Force WAC. She was discharged on 20 June 1948.[4]

Boye moved to Des Moines in 1953 and remained here for the rest of her life. She retired from a position as director of Iowa Family and Children Services in 1980.[5] She died on 29 April 2001.[6]
