Erik Christian Berg

(1920 - 1945)

Erik Christian Berg is born on 14 May 1920 in Newark, New Jersey. He is the son of Carl Christian Berg and Ingrid Berg (née Brummerstedt). The parents were married in New York City Hall on 20 February 1919 having arrived in the USA in 1918 and 1919 respectively. Erik is thus U.S. Citizen by birth, but born by Danish parents. [1]

At some point the family seems to have moved to England. In 1945 the parents live in Hemel Hempstead. [2]

During the war Erik volunteers for the Royal Air Force Voluntary reserve and os trained as pilot. He serves in No. 272 Squadron. In 1945, this unit is based in Italy flying Bristol Beaufighter X.

Erik is killed in a flying crash on 6 March 1945. Initially, he is buried at Carlino, two miles south west of San Giorgio Di Nogaro, Province of Udine. He rests at the Udine War Cenetery. [3]
