Hans Christian Madsen

(1908 - 1968)

Hans Christian Madsen is one of a small number of Danish pilots who volunteers for the Malayan Volunteer Air Force during the Second World War. He is captured by the Japanese and is sent to the notorious Burma-Siam Railway also known as the "Death Railway."

Hans Christian Madsen is born in 1908 in Denmark. Before the war he works as Assistant Planter, at Bernam Oil Palms Ltd, Hutan Melintang, Perak (United Plantations), Malaysia. He is trained as pilot in the Ipoh Flying Club.

According to Martin he volunteers for the Malayan Volunteer Air Force during 1941, but POW records suggest that he is attached to No 1st Battalion Federated Malay States Volunteer Force as Private (7416).

He is taken prisoner of war following the Japanese attack on Singapore and is sent to the notorious Burma-Siam Railway also known as the "Death Railway." [1]
