John Mikael Steffensen is born on 20 December 1892 in Randers, Denmark. [1]

On 29 October 1917, he enlists for the Australian Imperial Force in the First World War, but discharges here from on 14 November 1917 due to medical unfitness. At this point he is a naturalised British subject. [2]

He enlists for the Royal Australian Air Force on 31 August 1942 in Adelaine. He is discharged on 6 April 1945 at which point he is attached to Adelaide Wireless/Telegraphic Station holding the rank of Leading Aircraftman. [3]
