Sgt Carl Christian Thomsen

(1910 - 1941)

Carl Christian Thomsen is born on 13. February 1910 in Jels, Denmark. He is son of Niels Thomsen and Anne Marie Thomsen (née Knudsen). He is married to Sigrid Thomsen (nee Nielson), of Kerteminde, Denmark.

He volunteers for the Royal Canadian Air Force during the Second World War. The exact circumstances are not known.

He is killed in action on 11 October 1941. His aircraft, a 217 Squadron Beaufort I (AW197 'MW-E'), disappears for unknown reasons while on a minelaying mission outside Brest, France. It has left St. Eval on 18:41. Three of the crew of four is killed. Apart from Carl Christian Thomsen there are Sergent. Perry, and Sergent C. Earl. The fourth, Sergent F. Gornall, becomes PoW.

Carl Christian Thomsen holds the rank of sergeant at the time of his death. He is commemorated at the RUNNYMEDE MEMORIAL, Surrey (panel 62) (www.cwgc.org; www.rafandluftwaffe.info; McNiell, 2003; Nikolaj Vraa-Andersen).
