Details

The first seven a/c listed were briefed to recce roads ROME-FROSINONE-VELLETRI area. Weather was bad with 10/10 cloud in layers from 4-11,000' and above and although a part of the ROME-FROSINONE road was partially clear a satisfactory recce could not be carried out and aircraft bombed outside the area at VELLETRI, TERRACINA and SAN FELICE with unobserved results. Two a/c bombed transportation main highway. Owing recall was sent at 22:45 by which time all aircraft would have been in target area or returning. One a/c returned early without bombing, one a/c [Henrichsen] directed itself to MARCHANISE and one a/c (PILOT P/O A.P. Jenkins) is missing. There was no opposition but a large explosion was observed south of TERRACINE at 2250 hrs.
