Details

Eight aircraft carried out recce of shipping from PESCARA to ANCONA. Weather was very good and visibility excellent. No active shipping was observed nor M/T on coast road but scattered M/T on inland roads was again reported. A ship at S.BENEDETTO was attacked, and bombs were dropped on ANCONA staring fires on moles and workshops.

A very effective reconnaissance of four bridges was made by two a/c (F/S Malloy, pilot with F/S Charles, navigator, and F/L Fraser, pilot, with P/O Ferguson, navigator) They co-operated well in illuminating the targets and reported road and rail bridges at ROSETO unserviceable and other bridges on the coast damaged but apparently serviceable. These accurate observations carried out at night were substantiated by a photo recce carried out the following day.

Two bridges were attacked with very near misses reported.

Total bombs dropped: 20 x 500 lb and 128 x 40 lb.
