09:45 -11:15

The Wing, led by Major K. Birksted, D.F.C. flying with this Squadron, climbed from base and proceeded towards Boulogne to carry out a beach patrol as planned. Arriving in the area at 1006 hours at 24,000 feet, the Wing patrolled for 6 minutes and was then given freedom to operate on own initiative. A sweep was carried out in the Bethune, Lille, Ghent, Eeklo areas and coast was crossed near Dunkirk at 1050 hours. This sweep was quite uneventfull, no e/a being sighted and no flak experienced. Fires were observed on several airfield in Pas de Calais area. Pilots report large patch of oil in and outside the harbour of Boulogne. The assault convoy was seen on the return to base.

AIR 27/1728

ORB indicates aircraft as BS548, but this is likely be an error as BS458 was 132 W/C mount during this period.
