Sgt Einar Aage Kamp

Sgt Einar A. Kamp was one of the Danish nationals enlisting in the USAAF during the Second World War. Kamp was born in Copenhagen in 1906 but emigrated to the USA at the age of 19 in 1927. There is little information on his service available.
Einar Aage Kamp—originally Einar Aage Kamphenkel—was born on 28 October 1906 in Copenhagen, to bookkeeper Fritz Carl Peter Kamphenkel and Olga Johanne Kamphenkel (née Kugelmann).[1] His mother died on 24 September 1915, and his father ten years later, on 7 November 1925.[2]
Kamp emigrated to the United States in 1927, arriving in New York onboard the SS Hellig Olav on 23 November 1927. His brother William had emigrated four years earlier. [3] In 1930, he lived in Brooklyn and was employed as a truck driver. [4] Ten years later, at the time of the draft, he was employed by the Union League Club in New York City. [5] He had married Nancy Hertha Olsen in 1934 but they later divorced.[6]
Kamp enlisted as a private (32423655) in the US Army at Fort Jay Governors Island, New York, on 7 August 1942. He was not a citizen at this point. [7] Three months later, on 12 November 1942, he was naturalised as a US citizen in Amarillo, Texas, while serving in the 410th Technical School Squadron at Amarillo Army Air Field. [8] Kamp was released on 20 October 1945. [9] He had by then been promoted to sergeant.[10]
The year before he had married Anna Zlepko in New York. [11] He returned to New York after the war, and died on 28 September 1976.[12]
