Werner Mogensen

(1922 - 2009)

Pfc. Werner Mogensen was one of the Danes serving in the USAAF. The nature of his service is not known, but he was stationed at Barksdale Army Air Field.

Werner Mogensen was born on 2 April 1922, to cigar maker Gudmund Mogensen and Mary Viktoria Jensen. The parents were married in Nakskov on 18 March 1926.[1]

The family emigrated to the United States, his father arriving in New York on 2 July 1928 and the rest of the family arriving in the country on 23 September 1929.[2] The family settled in University City, St. Louis, Missouri. The father worked as a till roofer.[3] Mogensen worked as a carpenters apprentice after finishing school.[4]

Mogensen enlisted in the United States Army on 26 December 1942 at Jefferson Barracks, Missouri.[5] He was naturalized as a citizen of the United States on 18 June 1943 at which point he was stationed as Private First Class at Barksdale Army Air Field in Louisiana.[6] There is no further information on his service at this point.

Mogensen worked in construction in St Louis after the war.[7] He died on 6 August 2009.[8]
