Marie Kimes (née Nielsen)

(1895 - 1985)

Marie Kimes was one of twenty-nine Danish born women to volunteer for the Women’s Army Corps (WAC) during the Second World War.

Marie Kimes was born as Christine Marie Nielsen was born on 22 March 1895 in Try in the parish of Torslev, the daughter of Jens Peter Nielsen and Ane Marie Nielsen (née Christensen).[1] She is a twin to Christian Marinus Nielsen.

She emigrated to the United States in 1918 and, at some point before 1925, she was married to Frank Bernard Kimes. She was naturalised by marriage at this point.[2] The Kimes family lived in Kansas City.[3]

Kimes volunteered for the WAC on 30 November 1943 in Kansas City, Missouri.[4] She served as a Private First Class (A-709064), and served until 23 June 1945.[5]

Kimes died on 16 October 1985 in Kansas.[6]
