Citation

Flying Officer Frede Johannes Florentsen (173987) - R.A.F. Volunteer Reserve, No. 254 Squadron has flown 48 sorties involving 152 operational hours: This Officer, who is Danish by birth, has completed 12 major strikes against the enemy. He possesses terrific aggresive spirit and his high standard of courage and powers of leadership have been a brilliant example to all.

Recently he was leading a sub-section of the Squadron in a sweep off the Frisians and when detailed by the Squadron Commander to lead his own sub-section, together with another sub-section in to attack two M-class Minesweepers at anchor inside the defended anchorage of Armeland. F/O Florentsen carried out his orders with great celerity and continued to attack the enemy until all his ammunition was exhausted, and botj minesweepers were set on fire. A few days later F/O Florentsen was on a A.S.R. search when he encountered a heavily armed Tank Landing Craft and an armed Trawler beached near Schiermonnikeeg and in the face of fierce opposition he again attacked the enemy until all his ammunition was exhausted inflicting serious damage as to enable major attack to be delivered the following day.
