Ramrod 867. At 1100 hours the Wing, led by Major Christie, took off from Manston on Ramrod 867, climbing to 10,000 ft. towards the target. When crossing the French coast N. of Calais 2/Lt. Gjestland was hit by heavy flak in the port wing, but managed to return to base escorted by Red 4. The rest reached the target at 1135 hours, dive-bombing the marshalling yards from 10,000 to 3,500 ft., the result being poor. Over the target they met meagre, accurate, light flak and from Calais meagre, heavy, accurate idem. There was no enemy aircraft opposition. The haze rose up to 15,000 ft. and visibility reached 5 miles. The pilots returned at 1240 hours.
