Ramrod 1504. 12 Spitfire IX LF with 90 gallon tanks took off from base at 07.35 hours landing at Ursel at 08.15. 11 Spits IX took off from Ursel to act as escort to rear half of 75 Lancasters bombing Benzole Plant at Gelsenkirchen. Escort went as planned. Bombers 15 minutes late on target. Bombing appeared concentrated. Five large explosions from target area. Intense accurate 80 mm flak from target broke up bomber formation. Weather clear apart from wispy cloud at 21,000 ft. Visibility 20 miles. 2 Spitfire (mech.) and 1 escort abortive [among them F/L Pedersen]. Formation landed at Ursel.
