Ramrod 1497. 11 Spitfire IX LF took off at 15.00 hours from Maldeghem to act as escort to 70 Halifaxes bombing Castrop Rauxell Distillery plant. Operations went as planned although bombers were late at R/V. Bombing appeared good, black smoke and flame visible from Dutch Islands on way out. Moderate heavy accurate heavy flak directed at bombers from target area. Weather- no cloud and clear above, slight ground haze.
