Ramrod 1375. 12 Spitfire IX LF (90 gallon tanks) led by W/Cdr. Oxspring, including one to act as V.H.F. airborne relay toof off to act as target cover to 180 Lancasters bombing the synthetic oil plant at Homburg. Relay aircraft [F/L Pedersen] landed early with R.T. trouble, and four further landed back at base at 16.05 hrs., in company with the Wing Commander Flying. The operation went according to plan and target cover was provided. There was much black smoke from the target and a large red fire. Two bursts of heavy flak were fired from Cologne and a moderate amount from the target, which was accurate for the bombers four of which were hit and believed destroyed. Five V.2. contrails were seen, two over the Hague, two over Munster, and one over the Dorsal area, they were all seen at about 15.00 hrs.
