11 Spitfire IX LF (90 gallon tanks) led by W/Cdr. Powell took off to provide escort to airborne reinforcements going to the battle area. Bourg Leopold to Eindhoven was patrolled twice, and the whole operation proceeded entirely to plan, and was uneventful apart from about 18 bursts of light flak from the Bruges area. This flak was not fired at our aircraft. The pin points for the gun positions were D.015068, D.008062 and D.015060. Weather 4/10ths at 6,000 ft. to 20 miles east of Antwerp, then 8/10ths broken cumulus at 3,000 ft. Visibility 5 miles. Squadron was on Operation "Market" 'D' plus G.

From form 540This afternoon 12 aircraft with 90 gallon tanks took off on Operation "Market" plus 6 as escort to airborne reinforcements going to Arnhem area. Squadron patrolled from Bourgh Leopold to Eindhoven uneventfully. There was moderate light flak from Bruges area, but all our aircraft returned safely.
