Ramrod 1236. 12 Spitfire IX LF plus 25 lbs. boost led by Sqdn.Ldr. H.P. Burke, the Commanding Officer, together with 165 Squadron paid their first visit to Germany. The Wings role was to provide escort to the rear of 200 Lancasters and Halifaxes bombing a synthetic oil plant at Homberg. The operation was carried out according to plan. The Wing flew at 21,000 ft. No bombing results were seen owing to cloud. Flak was experienced from Geertruidenberg and continued sporadically. Over the target it was intense and generally accurate.
