Ramrod 1191. 11 Spits (45 gallon L.R. tanks) led by W/C Powell acted as close escort to 36 Mitchells bombing ammunition dump 15 miles N.W. of Beauvais. Rendezvous with bombers according to plan at 12.30 hrs. Crossed in 5 miles E. of St. Valery. Bombers at 11,000 ft. fighters at 14,000 ft. Bombing concentrated around woods. Explosions seen by close escort. No indication by explosions that ammo. dump had been hit. Out on reciprocal course, one burst heavy flak Pavilly on way out. Weather target area no cloud; visibility very good in haze up to 14,000 ft.
