Ramrod 1186. 12 Spitfires IX L.F. (45 gallon tanks) with 165 & 504 Sqns. led by W/C Powell, acted as cover to 120 Lancasters attacking Lens marschalling yards. Rendezvous according to plan. In French coast S. of Berck flying at 19,000-20,000 ft. to target which Lancasters bombed with good results, target area being obscured by smoke from bursts. Medium heavy accurate flak from target area, also maegre heavy flak at bombers on way in. Weather in Channel 10/10ths at 3,000 ft. visibility excellent above. Over land and target, cloud 4/10ths at 3,000 ft. visibility above, excellent.
