Details
Red 1 [F/L Maskill, I.P.] under Sandwich control, first saw Diver S.E. of Maidstone and intercepted ot in position S. of Lenham. Diver was flying slowly at 220 m.p.h., on a straight and level course of 315° at 1000 ft. with jet functioning normally. Attacked from line astern from rangs of 300-150 yards, and fired 3 short bursts. Strikes seen on jet unit during first attack, and the second set it on fire. After the final attack the jet went out, and Diver dived steeply down, crashing on a wood or orchard, near railway line W.N.W. of Maidstone. Claim 1 Diver destroyed. Time of attack 07.55.
