Details
12 a/c led by Capt. Ringdal took off from base to provide close escort to 100 Lancasters bombing Z3257. Approximately 25 e/a attempted to intercept bombers escorted by 331(N) Sqdn. These were summarily dealt with. 1 ME 109 as destroyed by Capt. Ringdal, 1 ME 109 by Lieut. L'Abee-Lund and 1 F.W. by 2/Lieuts Gundersen and Tjensvoll. One F.W. damaged by Capt. Ringdal. The rest of the escort was uneventful. 1 M.E. 109 was observed in the target area with roundel on fuselage. Red centre with white edge and a black cross in the centre. All a/c returned safely to base at 13.10 hrs. with exception of one a/c which had to return to base due to mechanical trouble. Later the Squadron moved with 132 Wing from R.A.F. Tangmere to A.L.Q. Funtingdon.
