Ramrod 1377. 12 Spitfire IX LF (90 gallon tanks) including one relay aircraft Brussels area took off to act as escort to 418 Lancasters bombing Duran. Rendezvous according to plan 12 miles S.S.W. of Liege and went on the the target with bombers at 17,000 - 18,000 ft. and the figthers at 19,000 - 20,000 ft. Bombing concentrated and reported excellent. Dust and smoke to over 4,000 ft. over the target, three bombers seen to explode in the target area and another seen to dive down out of control - open parachute seen. On return bombers left near Liege. Flak - target area, moderate accurate medium and heavy flak, and maegre heavy flak at the bombers from Dunkerque ZUlpich. Weather 6/10 - 8/10ths at 4,000 - 5,000 ft. Clear patch over the target, visibility good, in the haze which prevailed over the whole operational area, snow on the ground south of the target. Two Spitfires abortive, one with a loose hood and the other with an oiled up windscreen.
