12 a/c airborne on escort of 24 B.26s attacking a road and railway bridge at ORVIETO. In position A.3881 two unidentified a/c were seen three miles away. Two Spitfires dropped their tanks and gave chase. The a/c were identified as Thunderbolts. Direct hits were observed on the bridge, which became obscured in dust and debris. In position (E)6264 an electric train was observed travelling North. On the beach at (E)5630 two small landing craft were observed, but they appeared to be derelict.
