12 a/c were airborne on escort of 24 B.25s attacking a target North of ORVIETO. One a/c returning after 10 mins. with engine trouble, accompanied by his No. 2. The target was not attacked owing to poor visibility; bombs were dropped on return journey at Q(E)7141 and near misses observed. Flak was experienced at Q(E)5664 - heavy, moderate, accurate. WEATHER visibility: poor, cloud, top layer - base 13,500 ft. Lower layer, base 4,000 ft., top 5,000 ft. 9/10.
