23 Aircraft carried 426 paratroops to the Dropping Zone. Light Flak was encountered but on the whole the opposition was slight. F/Sgt. Derbyshire was unable to recognise the D.Z. and returned with 18 paratroops - all other dropped successfully.

Note

Operation Tonga. 23 aircraft took off at approximately 23.30 hrs. for France to drop paratroops in the Caen Area. The operation was successful and they landed at base after being airborne for 3 hrs. (Form 540)
