Godfred Lund Johnsen
(1910–1977)
Godfred Lund Johnsen is born on 30 December 1910 in Skive, Denmark. He is the son of Jens Johnsen and Mette Marie Kristensen. [1] The family emigrates to Canada when in the early 1910's. Godfred Lund Johnsen arrives in New York from Copenhagen on 20 November 1913 on-board SS C F Tietgen in company with his mother and two siblings with the intention of joining the father in Calgary, Alberta. [2] The father, and hence Godfred as minor, is naturalised as British subject on 8 December 1930 (24369 B). The family then lives in Vancouver, B.C., and the father's profession is stated as dairy worker. [3]
Therefore, though Danish born Godfred Lund Johnsen is British subject, when he joins the Ferry Command in 1941 ferrying the first aircraft in July 1941. According to the crew card he continues up to 23 March 1944 on many trans-Atlantic delivery flights by Northern and Southern routes as well is on flights within North America. [4]
In June 1945, Godfred Lund Johnsen is Commended for valuable service in the air by the King. London Gazette lists him as Radio Officer, No. 45 Atlantic Transport Group, Royal Air Force. [5]
Godfred Lund Johnsen dies on 27 January 1977 in Vancouver, B.C. [6]
