Bjarkov, Hans Ludvig Valdemar
(1891 - 1989)

Hand Ludvig Valdemar Bjarkov is one of the great pioneers of Danish military aviation.

Hand Ludvig Valdemar Bjarkov is born on 7 June 1891. He is trained as pilot in the Army as early as in 1917 (pilot's certificate 18/17). He is then Sergent (sergeant) at 17th Battalion. He is appointed Sekondløjtnant in 1921 and Kaptajn af Reserven (Captain of the Reserve) in 1928. In 1932 he is commissioned as captain and in 1937 he is appointed Oberstløjtnant (lieutenant colonel).

DANFORCE

He is a driving force in setting up the Danish squadron in Sweden following the German siege of the armed forces in August 1943. From April until November 1944 he is trained in Flygflottilj 6 and 8. He is then transferred to the headquarters of the Danish forces and then to General R.H. Dewings staff, Mission Denmark, in England.

After the War

At the liberation of Denmark he re-joins the Army Air Services and he is appointed Oberst af Reserven (Colonel of the Reserve in 1955.
