Citation

Flying Officer Nielsen har taken part in numerous operational sorties. He has attacked many major targets in Rumania, Hungary, Southern Austria, Yugoslavia and Greece. In August, 1944, he was captain of an aircraft detailed to attack the oil refinary at Plosti. Just outside the target area he was attacked by a Junkers 88 and his aircraft was severely damaged. While over the target his aircraft was illuminated by searchlights and further damaged by fire from the enemy defences; nevertheless Flying Officer Nielsen succesfully completed his mission. In the face of danger this officer has always set an inspiring example by his cool courage and efficiency.
